3 Spiritual Practices I Take With Me — Even on Holiday ✨🧳

Going away is such a joy — a chance to rest, explore, and just be. But I’ll be honest… I often find it hard to stick to all of the spiritual habits that keep me grounded in my day-to-day life. 🌿

Here are the three practices I do my best to keep up with — even when I’m away from home:

💫 1. Cleansing and protecting my energy — morning and evening.
This helps me release any energetic clutter I may have picked up during the day and start fresh. It’s like brushing your soul clean. 🌬️

🙏 2. Prayer time.
That sacred pause — to connect, to give thanks, to just sit in stillness and remember I’m held. It brings me home to myself, wherever I am. 🕊️

💖 3. Affirmations.
I’ll be honest — this one slipped a little recently. But this morning I woke up feeling a bit tender and uncertain. And repeating my affirmations grounded me.
They reminded me that right here, right now —
I am okay.
I am safe.
I am supported.

Sometimes, all we need is that gentle reminder. 🌸

Shame: The Silent Struggle Within

Shame is a complex emotion that thrives in silence. When we keep our struggles locked away, this isolation becomes a breeding ground for shame to expand, consuming us and our thoughts. In this silence, we forget that others share similar experiences. We think that we are the only ones going through this. Shame then fuels negative self-talk, convincing us that there is something wrong with us - making us question our worthiness. We miss the chance for empathy, support and understanding. Suppressing what we are feeling and the desperation that comes with our struggles and difficulties might even lead to further inner turmoil.
‌
But, there is a powerful antidote to shame: vulnerability. When we break the silence and seek support, we take the first steps towards healing. Vulnerability allows us to share our burdens, discover empathy, and embrace our imperfections. I can say hand on heart that there is true magic that can be found when you open up to the right people, the right group. Sharing provides sweet release, relief and a realization that you are okay, that there is nothing wrong with you. When you share, you not only heal yourself but also extend a healing hand to those who hear you, potentially alleviating the burdens they’ve carried in silence. It is in vulnerability that we find strength, resilience, and the path to self-compassion.

As I got ready this morning, this little message popped into my mind. I think it was a message for me as much as it was for you.
‌
Today it took me nearly two hours to do a task that should have only taken me ten minutes. I am in this situation because, instead of listening to my intuition over the last month, I decided to indulge and take the easy route out.
‌
So here I was, feeling the irritation grow as I took ages to complete my admin activity. 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘭𝘢𝘻𝘺 - 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, a little voice told me. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸…

Hello self-criticism, my old friend… Always here to make things worse and increase the frustration.
‌
And then I stopped took a breath and remembered my message. Instantly my mind switched, the tension left my body and I relaxed. My thoughts change from being critical to being supportive. It is what it is, it’s fine. Everything is okay. Next time it will be easier and quicker because I now know better.
‌
And this little reminder stayed me with for the rest of the day, making it ease-full (I know I just made up a word 🤗) and keeping me at peace. May this support you too ❤️

It’s a journey, and it takes time to shift from people pleasing to being more empathetic. Be patient with yourself and celebrate small steps along the way. You’ve got this! ✨

If you do recognise yourself please do not feel bad about yourself. There is nothing wrong with you. We were not born as people pleasers. As children, we naturally seek approval and validation from our parents or caregivers. When we are praised for being a good girl or a good boy, it felt good. At that point, we started thinking that when we are good, follow the rules or agree, we are appreciated and people like us. The belief that we have more worth when we please others starts forming. This is where is all begins. Some of us have more of a tendency to be people pleasers because of our upbringing, what we have seen our parents do and our culture.

So please do not feel bad. I know I certainly do recognise myself. I am a recovering people pleaser. I often find myself slipping bank into old habits. For many different reasons - that’s a story for another day. They key though is awareness. Once you are aware, you can catch yourself and start acting differently. It certainly can be uncomfortable to put yourself first or have firm boundaries. Trust me though, when I say that once you do, your self esteem will thank you and your life will be so much sweeter. 💓
